    I used to run a hosting company. This is the basics of what you need.

    1) Servers:
    You can lease servers (for as little as $150/m…i would recomend starting with just 2) or colocate them at hundreds of datacenters. On the servers, you can install (only basic linux knowledge required) control panels (like cPanel or Plesk) to automate everything (setting up accounts and hosting). You can then sell the space on the servers (sell single domain name hosting accounts or multiple domain reseller accounts).
    2) Support:
    You probably will want to hire a tech (a linux administrator) to solve tech problems on the servers and keep them secure (i would recomend outsourcing to india if you are low on cash… can hire for around $500/m). Use an online tech support system (like Kayako) to automate support for your clients.
    3) Signup/Billing:
    You can even automate the whole signup process with some software (several to choose from). You will need recurring billing (can use paypal or a merchant account) so that your customers automatically get billed every month for your service. Make sure you have multiple billing source available (in case you get charged back — sometimes you will get fake signups which can be problematic).
    4) the Business:
    Hosting is a very dynamic business and its very competitive. You will succeed if you can tap into a niche market.
    If you are not very knowledgable (linux, etc.) or on low-low budget, i would recomend with just starting with a cpanel reseller acount (for as little as $35/m) from another hosting company. It will still allow you to set up single domain name hosting using space/bandwidth that is allocated to you… that you can sell to others.

    Domain reselling — you can get accounts from other domain registrars (like enom) to sell domains for small profit.

    You can start with reseller hosting plan;

    * With a reseller web hosting account, users have the privilege of choose a package size to meet the needs.

    * The server maintenance is taken care by the web host.

    * The Reseller account holder can earn revenue as a web host.

    * Using a single control panel, account holders can access every website (Client web-site’s too).

    * Using a reseller account, new web hosts can enter the market with less expenses.

    * The reseller account holders can assign and also modify the available disk space and bandwidth and can sells hosting to customers setting up their own price.
